What We Do

What We Do

Beds and Herts LMC provide a number of services all designed to support General Practice and individual GPs.  We develop these services in conjunction with members with the aim to help General Practice to thrive and grow.  Our services are delivered primarily by the staff of the LMC but we draw on the expertise and guidance of LMC members to ensure that what we offer is up to date and in touch with the needs of GPs.

Much of what we do is to represent and promote the views of GPs to key decision makers in the Health and Care system – so as to ensure that decisions are well informed by the experience of General Practice.  Our advocacy and representative roles and work is outlined in the Roles and Functions page.

In addition we offer a range of tailored, bespoke services that are provided to individual GPs, or individual practices. We are currently reviewing what we can offer at the multi-practice level – to reflect the emergence of Primary Care Networks (PCNs).

General Practitioners Contracts

GPs work to a set of nationally determined contractual expectations that make it clear what the GP should do and how they should refer into and around the health and care system.  The GP contract also specifies payments to GPs.

Some GPs also have specific local requirements – set out in additional local contracts.eg APMS contracts.

The current 2019-2020 contractual requirements and associated 209/20 documents can be found here:
